Good for reducing heart rate & blood pressure

A great device to work with inducing the relaxation response by way of breathing and being able to get immediate feedback on how this is improving your heart rhythm is with this device from the Heartmath Institute. I have the desktop version that I use to teach and show my patients just how powerful slowing the breath can be in their overall well-being. I have no affiliation with them, I just find great benefit from this product!

Working with breathe to induce relaxation has been around for thousands of years in wisdom traditions and spiritual practices. If you are a teacher or work with people in groups, I like to use the Hoberman Sphere to teach paced breathing. It is such an interesting visual to follow! Breathe in as the sphere opens, breathe out as the sphere closes.

The sigh is something I have found to be really important too. It is nature’s way of giving your diaphragm a release and I’ve come to believe that our system “liked” whatever thought or experience we had that came right before the sigh.  When you have a spontaneous sigh during your day, see if you can figure out what came right before it. That thought may be a resource for you.
